چکیده

Renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis is the common feature of chronic renal failure, regardless of its etiology. Myofibroblasts play important roles in progression of the fibrosis and are characterized by expressions of various cytoskeletons such as vimentin, desmin and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). To pursue the characteristics of the cells, we immunohistochemically investigated the relationship between calponin (a marker of terminal smooth muscles) expression and myofibroblasts in cisplatin-induced rat renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis. Calponin-expressing interstitial cells increased with fibrosis and reacted simultaneously to vimentin or α-SMA (a marker of well-differentiated myofibroblasts) but not desmin or Thy-1 (a marker of myofibroblasts at the early stage). The present study shows that calponin may be expressed transiently in relatively well-developed myofibroblasts in rat renal fibrosis. Calponin could become a marker for myofibroblast development in chronic renal toxicity in rats.

MicroRNA-205 inhibits renal cells apoptosis via targeting CMTM4

Objective(s):MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression. They have important roles in kidney development, homeostasis and disease, and participate in the onset and progression of tubulointerstitial sclerosis and end-stage glomerular lesions that occur in various forms of chronic kidney disease (CKD). In the present study, we elucidated the role of microR...

Oxytocin alleviates cisplatin-induced renal damage in rats

Objective(s):The purpose of the present study was to investigate the protective effect of oxytocin on cisplatin (CP)-induced renal damage in rats. Materials and Methods: Fourteen adult Sprague Dawley rats, weighing 200 to 210, were administered by cisplatin (CP, 2 mg/kg/day) twice a week for five weeks. Then, they were randomly divided into two groups and treated with either saline (1 ml/kg/day...

Ozone therapy could attenuate tubulointerstitial injury in adenine-induced CKD rats by mediating Nrf2 and NF-κB

Objective(s): This study aims to determine the effects of ozone therapy on restoring impaired Nrf2 activation to ameliorate chronic tubulointerstitial injury in rats with adenine-induced CKD. Materials and Methods: Sprague–Dawley rats were fed with 0.75% adenine-containing diet to induce CKD and chronic tubulointerstitial injury. Ozone therapy was administered by rectal insufflation. After 4 we...

Effect of Antioxidants and Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Cisplatin Induced Renal Fibrosis in Rats

Inflammation of the tubulointerstitial compartment, leading to fibrosis, is a major factor in the progressive loss of renal function. About 80% of total kidney volume is composed of tubular epithelial cells and cells within the interstitial space. There are also a small number of resident mononuclear cells and fibroblasts. It is widely recognized that progressive renal disease is accompanied by...

Tripterygium Glycosides Tablet Ameliorates Renal Tubulointerstitial Fibrosis via the Toll-Like Receptor 4/Nuclear Factor Kappa B Signaling Pathway in High-Fat Diet Fed and Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

Tripterygium glycosides tablet (TGT) is a Chinese traditional medicine that has been shown to protect podocytes from injury and reduce the proteinuria. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of TGT on renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis and its potential mechanism in high-fat diet fed and STZ-induced diabetic rats. Rats were randomly divided into normal control rats (NC group), diabetic r...
